New York is a city that really leaves an impression on its many visitors. It is so vibrant and just bursting with energy. I visited NYC in the month of March, but would recommend that the best time to visit is a bit later, preferably late spring or even early summer.
I was so fortunate to be able to stay at The Plaza, a
Fairmont hotel. Its superb location, right on the edge of Central Park, cannot be beaten. A little more than 100 years old, having opened in 1907, this landmark property has been home to such varied characters as Eloise, “Home Alone 2”, and Truman Capote’s Black and White Ball, often referred to as “The Party of the Century”. The Plaza is a truly a living monument to the history of pop culture.
I flew into New York’s JFK airport. Although it’s a little bit further out from the heart of Manhattan, taxis from JFK have a set rate for their fees, whereas those from La Guardia do not.
My favourite restaurant was the Marriott Marquis’ View Restaurant and Lounge, the city’s only revolving rooftop eatery, located on the 48th floor. Fantastic food paired with an outstanding view, it is a truly quintessential New York experience.
If you’re a shopper, I suggest a visit to C21. I popped in, expecting to be in and out in 5 minutes, and didn’t emerge until 5 hours later! Finally, no trip to New York is complete without a sampling of their famous cheesecake, or at the very least, a bagel!
