Arizona is nestled between the states of Utah to the north, Nevada to the northwest, California to the west, Mexico to the south and New Mexico to the east. I had the opportunity to spend a few days in the Greater Phoenix Area, in central Arizona and to fly to the northern part of the Grand Canyon; a wonderful experience indeed. With several nonstop flights from the west coast of Canada, Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport can be reached easily in less than 3 hours.

The Greater Phoenix area is comprised of several communities, each with its own distinct features and canada pharmacy 24 hr charm, and easily reached within 15 to 45 minute drive depending on the time of day.

Phoenix, the State Capital, with its multitude of golf courses, big league sporting events, museums and a population of 1.4 million, is the fifth largest city in the USA. It offers the perfect balance between urban getaway and Southwestern scenery.

Scottsdale on the North East of Phoenix is a shopping paradise with its high-end shopping centers, boutiques and jewelry stores. You will also find some of the most luxurious resorts, such as JW Marriott, Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, Westin Kierland Resort, and champion golf courses.

Glendale is for the sports enthusiasts. Hockey fans will enjoy a visit to the arena, home to the NHL Coyotes hockey team. The day of our visit, we witnessed a practice for the upcoming game against the Habs. It was great to see our Canadian Maple leaf flag floating proudly about the rink next to its host country the USA. If football is more of your taste, watch The Arizona Cardinals do their thing at the University of Arizona Stadium, an imposing structure that can be spotted from miles. Located in the centre of the Glendale entertainment district and steps away from the Hockey Arena, it has also served as a Super Bowl site. For a casual lunch and fun times, do check-out the famed Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville Restaurant while you’re there.

commemeMesa, Arizona’s third largest city, is the perfect blend of art, culture and outdoor activities. With its many long-stay hotels, moderately priced golf courses and easy access to the Apache Trail and Superstition mountains, Tonto Forest, Mesa would appeal equally to adventure seekers, families and seniors. It’s astonishing to see olive and citrus groves thriving in the middle of the desert, thanks to a sophisticated canal system conceived by ancient Native tribes, for the purpose of irrigation and cultivation of the land. For those who prefer not driving, the Light rail system, in operation for the last 2 years, connects Phoenix Airport to downtown Mesa and all the cultural, art and sports activities within the city.

If you’re an amateur of war planes and the history of the US Air Force, I strongly recommend a visit to the Commemorative Air Force Museum, known as CAF. You may also take a ride in one of the B17s or B25s on display in the hangar. These flights are very popular and require advanced reservations.

A trip to Arizona wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Grand Canyon, one of the 7 Natural wonders of the world. And it’s just that and more. I was very lucky to have been part of a scenic flight from Phoenix with Westwind Air Services, to the Northern Rim of the Grand Canyon. Our very experienced and knowledgeable pilot flew us over the canyon for at least half an hour, as deep inside as regulated, to witness the awe inspiring work of Mother Nature over millions of years. It’s definitely an unqualified natural wonder.
